Different types of hearing loss

Knowing the type of hearing loss is necessary in order to provide proper treatment.

Hearing loss is normally divided into two categories: conductive hearing loss vs sensorineural hearing loss, depending on where in the ear the hearing loss originates.

You can also have a mixed hearing loss which is a combination of the two.

If you suspect that you have a hearing loss or are concerned you may have a medical condition within the ear, it is important to get a hearing health check with a trained hearing care professional.

Sensorineural hearing loss happens when there is damage to the inner ear or to the nerves that travel from the ear to the brain.
Conductive hearing loss happens when sound doesn’t travel efficiently from the outer ear and into the eardrum and bones of the middle ear.
